FAQ

I’ll update this page as I get questions.

Who are you?

Read the About Me page =)

How often do you post?

I post regular comics every weekend, generally on Sundays (by regular, I mean the ones directly related to daily life as a teenager). I post fancomics sporadically.

Wait, what are fancomics?

I’ve been thinking up ideas about little hypothetical mini-stories that could occur in fictional worlds/stories like Encanto and the MCU, so now I’ve started drawing comics set in those universes, dubbed fancomics.

Just as a note – these comics will be slightly wacky and I’m not even sure if they’ll make complete sense. They’re just supposed to be cute and fun 🙂

Do you actually look like how you’ve drawn yourself in your comics?

Sure, except that in real life, I have a nose.

What’s your favorite comic?

My own.

Just kidding. Here’s your actual answer.

When I was in middle school, we did this team-building activity (so much fun!) at the end of the year where we were each assigned a student in our group and then had to describe them in three words. Most people described their assigned students as things like “funny, kind, energetic” or something along those lines. I was described as “Calvin, and, Hobbes”.

Yeah, I had an interesting reputation.

Are your comics based off of real-life events? (asked on the Factorials! post)

Most of them are based off of real-life events, but the extent to which they reflect something that happened to me varies. For example, “Error Messages” is a very accurate depiction of what happens nearly every time I want to do something fun on the computer (and just to prove my point, my computer crashed as I was revising that comic). But the conversation in “Factorials!”, on the other hand, wasn’t something that actually happened in real life; it was just what I assumed would happen if I decided to take the exclamation marks in math as opportunities to exclaim loudly 😀

On a related note, are the people in your comics (other than you) based on people you know from real life?

This also depends on the comic. In “Happy New Year 2022”, for example, some of the kids outside the window are based off of kids in my neighborhood (specifically, the kids eating the snow). But in “Factorials!”, the ‘supporting character’ isn’t based off of anyone specifically.

Why is it that some of your comics have color and others don’t?

Usually, I add color if I feel like the comic will benefit from it either because parts of the comic will stand out more or because the comic won’t work very well without color (“Moments”, for example, is nearly impossible to do without color), but other times I’ll add color to a comic just because I feel like it.

Your comics are relatable! How do you come up with your ideas?

This is a fun question. I usually don’t force myself to come up with ideas because then the results aren’t so good. Sometimes, I’ll have an embarrassing life experience that in retrospect is really funny, and that provides good comic material. Usually, though, the small struggles of everyday life as a teenager provide enough material on their own, leading me to have half-formed ideas in my head.

Once I have an idea, I start thinking about what I want the punchline to be (that’s normally the last panel), and how I want to lead up to that. Comic drawing for me is a lot like telling a very short story that’s meant to be funny. If I find it really difficult to generate a panel sequence for a specific idea, I might just wait on it until I come up with a better punchline. In any case, the most important thing is to not force yourself into creating humor.
